This ube milkshake is the perfect sweet treat. It takes less than 10 minutes to make with only a few simple ingredients but is extremely flavorful. Also included in this recipe are tips and tricks on how to make the perfect milkshake!

One of the simplest sweet treats out there is a milkshake. I have to admit I’ve not always loved milkshakes. They have to be done right, and I have had a lot of milkshakes that have been done very wrong. So unfortunately, those made me swear off of milkshakes for awhile. But I really wanted to make a drink with ube so I experimented a bit with this ube milkshake recipe. I wanted to make it as simple as possible with a few simple ingredients. The simplicity of this milkshake recipe is what I love most about it, and I hope you love it as much as I do!
Ingredients, Substitutions & Adjustments
- Ube halaya – This ingredient gives the ube milkshake its flavor and color. You can also use ube powder as a substitute, but it doesn’t give you as strong as a flavor as ube halaya.
- Ube extract – This gives the milkshake its rich purple color and ube flavor. I like to use both ube halaya and ube extract because it maximizes the ube flavor in the milkshake. You can definitely use only ube extract. You will get a similar color, but the ube flavor will not be as strong.
- Coconut milk – Milkshakes have to have some sort of milk, and I thought coconut milk would enhance the ube flavor in this drink. It’s also thicker and creamier than regular whole milk which makes the milkshake creamier. If you don’t have coconut milk, use any kind of milk you can find. Milks with more fat content will produce a creamier milkshake.
- Vanilla ice cream – Adds sweetness and gives the milkshake its creamy texture. You can use any kind of ice cream for a milkshake, but I like using vanilla because it’s a neutral flavor. Even better options would be coconut ice cream or ube ice cream to enhance that ube flavor even further.
Making my ube milkshake recipe
This ube milkshake recipe is seriously so so easy. Put everything into a blender and pulse until smooth. This might take around 5-10 pulses depending on how strong your blender is. Empty into a glass and enjoy!
What should I do if my ice cream is too hard to scoop?
If your ice cream is too hard, thaw your ice cream at room temperature for 3-5 minutes before scooping it into your blender. I had this problem, so I let it sit for a few minutes before adding it to my blender.
What if my ube milkshake is too thick or too thin?
Add some milk to thin out a thick milkshake. Similarly, if the milkshake is too watery, add more ice cream to thicken it up.
Which toppings are good for this ube milkshake?
You can use any kind of toppings for this milkshake! I chose whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate syrup. Other toppings that would also work are coconut flakes, crushed nuts, and caramel syrup (a personal favorite of mine).
What should I do if I don’t have a blender?
You can use a food processor, stand mixer, or hand mixer instead.
