Vietnamese Coffee Rice Krispie Treats
These Vietnamese coffee rice krispie treats make getting dessert on the table an easy process. They’re made in only 15 minutes and taste so so good. Rice krispie cereal is coated in a gooey marshmallow mixture flavored with smokey espresso powder and sweetened condensed milk, giving you that Vietnamese coffee flavor in the shape of a childhood treat.

I love making rice krispie treats. They’re always a crowd pleaser and so easy to make. This week I made these Vietnamese coffee rice krispie treats flavored with espresso powder and condensed milk. The reason I love these so much is they’re not too sweet. The bitterness from the espresso powder balances out the sweetness from the condensed milk and marshmallows. It’s overall the perfect dessert all year round, especially during the holidays.

My connection to Vietnamese coffee
My parents always had Vietnamese iced coffee on the weekends, and I grew up loving the flavor. I used to sneak a little bit into my milk to make it a bit more tasty. And now I try to recapture that nostalgia through my Vietnamese coffee desserts from these rice krispie treats to cookies, brownies, ice cream and donuts.
Ingredients, Substitutions & Adjustments
- Espresso powder – Adds the coffee flavor to these rice krispie treats. I always use King Arthur espresso powder.
- Condensed milk – Gives the rice krispie treats the Vietnamese coffee flavor because ca phe sua da is coffee and condensed milk.
- Rice Krispie cereal – This is what makes this bar a Rice Krispie treat! Rice Krispie cereal has gluten in it, so if you want to make it gluten free, make sure to get the gluten free version. The brand does make it.
- Marshmallows – Marshmallows bind the Rice Krispie cereal together. You can use either large or small marshmallows. I personally prefer small marshmallows because they melt faster.

How to make Vietnamese coffee rice krispie treats
Prep a 9×9 baking pan by greasing it with butter and covering it with parchment paper. Measure out 2 tbsp of espresso powder and 2 tbsp of condensed milk. Set aside. Add 6 cups of Rice Krispie cereal to a large bowl. Set aside.
Melt 3 tbsp of unsalted butter over medium heat until golden brown. Add 10 oz of marshmallows and stir until melted. Add the espresso powder and condensed milk and stir until incorporated. Pour the marshmallow mixture over the Rice Krispie cereal and stir to coat. Spoon rice krispie treats into the prepared 9×9 baking dish and press down with a spatula so the rice krispie treats are distributed evenly. Let them cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
